The Kiel Municipal Band participated in the 3rd Annual National Community Concert Band Sousa Festival in Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, Virgina. This festival commemorated the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The KMB was one of seven community bands in the nation are honored with an invitation to the festival this year. The KMB took part in several privilged events while at the festival

  • Visited the Marine Barracks and viewed the landmark John Philip Sousa Statue
  • Attended the Official Marine Barracks Evening Parade
  • Honored John Philip Sousa with a wreath-laying ceremony at his gravesite in the Historic Congressional Cemetery
  • Performed at the Rachel M. Schlesigner Concert Hall and Center for the Arts in Alexandria, VA
  • Performed a massed band concert with the other participating bands at the Air Force Memorial.
